Types Of Paint Spray Booths
Paint spray booths rely heavily on mechanical ventilation, which is crucial for maintaining a controlled environment. The direction of airflow within the cabin is one of the key factors in their categorisation. This airflow effectively captures and directs the overspray to the paint arrestor pads, ensuring minimal emissions and compliance with regional environmental standards.
At ARIA, we design, manufacture, deliver, install, and commission a wide variety of types of paint spray booths to meet the diverse needs of industries worldwide. These booths are further categorised by cabin size and construction, as the requirements for spray booths vary depending on the industry and the specific products being finished.
With a vast range of manufactured products needing wet spray coating, our types of paint spray booths are tailored to suit the exact specifications of each industry, ensuring top-quality performance and compliance with safety and emission standards.
Down Draft Paint Spray Booth

ARIA Down Draft Spray Booth: Efficient Vertical Airflow
A down draft spray booth is designed with vertical airflow, starting from the ceiling and extracting through the basement. ARIA’s down draft spray booths are ergonomically designed to suit the specific dimensions and weight of the parts being coated.
The vertical airflow efficiently directs overspray towards the basement, where it is captured by paint arrestor pads. To ensure optimal performance, standard engineering practices recommend maintaining an airflow velocity of 0.3 m/s at 800 Pa pressure within the booth. This ensures efficient operations and high-quality results.
Applications of Down Draft Spray Booth
ARIA down draft spray booths are ideal for bulky parts that cannot be hung on an overhead conveyor and typically weigh over 1 to 2 tonnes. These booths are best suited for batch-type applications where production volume is moderate. The vertical airflow and ergonomic design make them perfect for handling large, heavy components with efficiency and precision.
Industries of Down Draft Spray Booth
Industries that benefit from down draft spray booth applications include automotive manufacturing and refinishing, ship and yacht building, aviation, railways and waggons, furniture and woodworking, industrial equipment manufacturing, and mining equipment production.
Semi-Down Draft Spray Booth

ARIA Semi Down Draft Spray Booth: Optimised Airflow for Efficiency
A semi down draft spray booth combines elements of cross draft and down draft designs. In this setup, the airflow moves from the ceiling of the front half of the booth and is extracted through the back or side walls. This unique airflow direction ensures even overspray removal and enhances operational efficiency.
ARIA semi down draft spray booths are engineered to maintain an airflow velocity of 0.34 m/s at 1100 Pascals. This optimizes the performance and extends the lifespan of the paint arrestor pads, ensuring efficient spray booth operations over time.
Applications of Semi Down Draft Spray Booth
ARIA semi down draft spray booths are ideal for applications that require a compliant and efficient solution for paint plants but may not have the budget for a full down draft arrangement. This design significantly reduces initial investment while maintaining minimal compromise on the efficiency of the spray booth.
The semi down draft spray booth configuration is also preferred in workshops with limited space, allowing for a reduced overall footprint without sacrificing performance. This makes it a practical choice for various industries looking to optimize their operations while staying within budget constraints.
Industries of semi down draft spray booth
All industries where in a cross-draft spray booth or a down draft spray booth can be selected such as Automotive manufacturing, small and large industrial products manufacturing, plastic parts manufacturing, Automotive re finishing, Aviation, Railways, Ship and Yacht building etc. are some examples.
Cross Draft Draft Spray Booth

A Cross Draft Spray Booth is designed for the airflow to be in horizontal direction starting from the front of the spray booth and extracting from the rear of the spray booth. ARIA Cross draft spray booths are designed ergonomically as per part dimensions and weight. The horizontal flow of air must be maintained at 0.5 m/s velocity with a pressure of 1100 pascals to allow for all overspray to be efficiently extracted and filtered before discharge.
ARIA spray booths are designed in such a way that the airflow velocity in a empty booth is maintained to 0.5 m/s which when occupied by parts increases to 0.6 m/s this is mitigated with the aid of VSD on the fan motor to ensure when the filters are parttially clogged also to obtain desired airflow velocity.
Applications of Cross draft spray booth
ARIA cross draft spray booths are best suited for high volume production of small parts which can be mounted on an overhead conveyor. The usual part weight is below 500 kgs and size of below 1 meter cube. In rare occasions for heavy, bulky and long parts like railway wagons or windmill wings can have a cross draft to reduce the spray booths costs to fit in budget as the cross-section area of the width is less that the cross-section area of the length of these parts the airflow volume to achieve 0.5 m/s airflow is much less than achieving 0.34 m/s airflow of down draft.
Industries of cross draft spray booth
Automotive spare parts manufacturing, cast iron manufacturing, Gas bottle refurbishing and manufacturing, gear box manufacturing, valves and irrigation Products manufacturing, plastic parts manufacturing, woodworking manufacturing etc.
Water Wash Spray Booth

A Water wash or water curtain spray booth can be built in any of the 3 types of airflow drafts described in basic types of spray booths the only difference being the filter media used for capturing overspray is water. Water wash spray booths are usually used in high volume and small parts applications where in the overspray produced is considerably higher than larger parts hence the consumption of filter media is much higher due to high volume of production rate.
Usually, water wash spray booths are used in cross draft arrangement with airless or robotic spraying systems to allow for large number of parts to be painted in a shift.
ARIA Water wash spray booths are designed to have accurate water curtain of 0.5 mm spread uniformly over a stainless steel 316 plate to allow for capturing of maximum overspray. We maintain our airflow velocity to the required 0.5 m/s to ensure all paint is carried by the cross draft towards the water curtain.
Applications of Water Wash Spray Booth
ARIA Water Wash spray booths are best suited for small parts finishing where in high volume of production rate is required. Due to high volume requirement a water wash spray booth is often installed in line with a curing oven to allow for speedy curing of the parts. Water wash spray booths are selected when the operations cost / maintenance cost of the spray booth needs to be lowered however the initial installation cost may be higher due to stainless steel construction.
Industries of water wash spray booth
All industries with high volume of production and low operations cost are best suited for water wash spray booth such as Automotive spare parts finishing, railway and wagon spare parts, mining equipment spare parts, mechanical equipment such as gear boxes, electric motors etc.
Retractable Spray Booth

A retractable spray booth is constructed with flexible PVC curtain material and a framework which can be retracted to utilize the space in the workshop for some other purpose than painting. This type of spray booth can only be constructed to have cross draft extraction which flows from main part entry doors to the rear of the spray booth.
ARIA retractable spray booths are designed to have minimum initial outlay and to maintain 0.5 m/s airflow velocity to achieve efficient overspray extraction, dry filtration or water wall filtration can be used depending on client preference to trap the overspray before discharge.
Applications of retractable Spray Booth:
Retractable spray booths are best suited for large machinery finishing such as mining trucks, railway wagons, abnormal trucks and parts, windmill turbines etc. these large parts do not have a need for high volume production and hence retractable spray booths can be used for spray painting and then can be retracted for use of workshop floor space for other tasks.
Industries of Retractable spray booths:
All industries with abnormally large parts such as mining equipment, forestry equipment, space shuttles and space crafts, aviation, windmills, railway and wagons etc. where in low production is required and have limited workshop space.
